“And Elimelech Naomi’s husband died; and she was left, and her two sons.
And they took them wives of the women of Moab; the name of the one was Orpah, and the name of the other Ruth: and they dwelled there about ten years. And Mahlon and Chilion died also both of them; and the woman was left of her two sons and her husband.
THEN SHE AROSE with her daughters in law, THAT SHE MIGHT RETURN from the country of Moab: for she had heard in the country of Moab how that the LORD had visited his people in giving them bread.
SO NAOMI RETURNED, and Ruth the Moabitess, her daughter in law, with her, which returned out of the country of Moab: and they came to Bethlehem IN THE BEGINNING OF BARLEY HARVEST.” Ruth 1:3-6,22 (KJV) [Emphasis mine]
Elimelech, Naomi and their two children ran away from Bethlehem and escaped into the land of Moab because of famine. They made everybody believe that it was going to be a brief visit to Moab when they intended to relocate. The Bible says:
THE RETURNING THAT CHANGES THE TURN OF THINGS Ruth 1:1 (KJV) [Emphasis mine]
The word “sojourn” in the verse above suggests a brief stay, maybe about one or two months. In the modern world, this family would have applied for visiting visa.
Interestingly, verse four of this chapter revealed the real plan of Elimelech and his family members:
“And THEY TOOK THEM WIVES OF THE WOMEN OF MOAB; the name of the one was Orpah, and the name of the other Ruth: AND THEY DWELLED THERE about ten years.” Ruth 1:4 (KJV) [Emphasis mine]
The question is, why did the two sons of Elimelech marry two women from Moab? Was this not a smart approach to changing their visas and their status?
Is this not what many people (possibly you), are doing to ‘regularise’ their stay in foreign lands? How did you obtain your so-called green card, stay, or permanent residence? You knew what you were up to when you applied for a visiting visa!
People, even Christians, especially, ministers of God tell lies at the Embassies to obtain visas. They pretend as if they are going on a brief visit only to stay put for years and some for decades as illegal immigrants!
Sadly, there are accomplices in the host countries, too, who will agree for a fee to arrange kangaroo marriages with them so that they can change their status!
Do you think marrying a woman/man from the host country will change your status from being an illegal alien, a fraud, a criminal, and a sinner before God? The government of the host country and other partners-in-crime might accord yọ 11 21 due recognition but you know God will not approve of such criminality!
It is disturbing that there are preachers/ministers in foreign lands who built their present status on such deceit!
Can a man be serving God while standing on such a faulty and unrighteous foundation?
The Bible says “and they dwelled there about ten years”!
How can you be DWELLING in a foreign country for ten years with an expired visiting visa?
Elimelech was the first to die. Naomi wanted to play smart when Elimelech died, instead of returning home, she got two Moabitesses for her two sons!
Increasing your speed while driving in the wrong direction will never take you to your destination! The way to get to your destination is to turn and return to the right path.
The two marriages were childless and eventually, Mahlon and Chilion died!
Though so much had been lost yet Naomi decided to return to end the losses! She returned to Bethlehem-Judah, the birthplace of Jesus Christ!
When will stop going in the wrong direction? When will you stop this drain pipe? When will you stop the continuous losses? When will you return home? When will you return to Jesus?
Repentance is indispensable and has no alternative! You can, now!
Repent by confessing your sins unto God, turn away from your sins, ask Jesus to cleanse you with His blood, and ask Him to come into your heart and dwell there! The time to do these is now!
